Delta Balustrades welcomed a delegation of 9 personnel from Willmott Dixon’s Oldham and Birmingham offices this week as part of our commitment to ensuring improved standards of balustrade design and installation.
Willmott Dixon is among our corporate partners; construction companies that have recognised the essential safety role of balustrades within contemporary buildings.
The company is particularly active in the education sector, having constructed 100 schools over the past three years and was keen to ensure its team enhances its balustrade knowledge to meet the demands of this and other sectors.
Comments Gavin Boyt from Delta Balustrades: “Correct loading, robust design and compliant installation of balustrades is particularly important in school buildings, where there are high occupancy levels and exacting wear and tear demands.
“As so many contemporary schools feature atriums, lightwells and multiple staircases, balustrades are a major safety and aesthetic component and spending time with contractors in this way is really helpful for both parties to understand safety, design, compliance and installation considerations.”
The Willmott Dixon delegates toured our manufacturing facilities and had the opportunity to ask questions of our design and technical teams as part of a full day itinerary, which also included a CPD (continuous professional development) presentation on ‘Responsible Balustrade Design’. Focused in particular on loading requirements and robust, compliant installation of glass infill panels, the presentation was designed to ensure Willmott Dixon delegates understand the different types of glass and fixings and their essential role in edge protection.
Gavin adds: “This is the first time we have welcomed a group visit from Willmott Dixon and the response has been fantastic. It’s definitely an initiative we would like to roll out to other regional offices and other partners as part of a joined up approach to supporting enhanced balustrade safety.”
