Delta Balustrades made history with Wales’ first science park.

The multi-award-winning M-SParc (Menai Science Park) in Anglesey is home to 45 offices, 23 laboratories and two double-height workshops for up to 700 people.

Willmott Dixon transformed the 20-acre site into a building aimed at driving growth in knowledge- based science, with a focus on low carbon energy, the environment and ICT sectors. M-Sparc’s futuristic appearance called for smooth lines and an ultra-modern aesthetic.

Collaborating with FaulknerBrowns Architects we were able to create the desired building style with the use of our structural glass system, Vista. Glass panels held in place by an aluminium channel and topped with a brightly polished, stainless steel, slotted handrail brought the future to life.

During the setting-out stage of the project, Delta advised Willmott Dixon of the correct levels required for secondary steelwork to be installed on both external balconies. This enabled the Vista base channels to be fixed to the design intent level.

Pre-start visits were a necessity on this project to ensure the lines of communication were open with Willmott Dixon’s site team. The cooperation of both parties enabled decisions to be made quickly, such as the location of the temporary edge protection and the installation of Vista channel prior to glass install to enable floor finishes to proceed on schedule.

The incorporation of Orbis balustrades with glass infill in the stairways continued the innovative nature of the building whilst enabling natural light to disperse throughout.
