Contractor: Vinci Construction
Architect: Sheppard Robson
One of the last schools to benefit from the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) initiative, this £22.5 million scheme constructed by Vinci involved the merger of two Halton Borough Council schools: Wade Deacon High School and Fairfield High School in Widnes. The project has seen the facilities formerly housed in four buildings across two sites combined into a single site, with the provision of a contemporary and inclusive learning environment. It has been designed to sit within one vibrant and inspirational building.
The audacious design has seen architects, Sheppard Robson, preserve the historic frontage of the existing Wade Deacon High school while the rear of the building has been completely transformed with a light and spacious new build. Delta Balustrades provided Vista structural glass balustrades throughout the main areas and worked collaboratively with the design team from the early stages of the project to ensure that the correct fixing details were specified. Close design inputs and calculations were required to specify three different fixing details for various elements of the installation.
